Samsung is reportedly working on a new touchscreen-powered Chromebook. Dubbed codename “Kevin,” the South Korean tech giant has kept quiet regarding its specs. However, Samsung recently leaked a pre-order page for its upcoming Chromebook, revealing a few key details about the device and how it works.
While Samsung has declined to officially announce its upcoming Chromebook (not yet, at least), the leaked screenshot reveals some of its features. First and foremost, we can tell this is a high-end Chromebook, not just another budget-friendly device that we’ve seen in the past few months. The Chromebook depicted in Samsung’s leaked screenshot shows a premium Chrome operating system (OS) running. This makes sense given that Chromebooks typically run the Chrome OS instead of Windows or other operating systems.
But that’s not all we found from Samsung’s leaked screenshot. The image also revealed a touchscreen-powered display. The actual size of the Chromebook’s display is 12.3 inches, boasting an impressive resolution of 2400 x 1600 pixels. Of course, the real beauty of this device is its touchscreen display, which allows users to flip the Chromebook around to use as a tablet. This means the Chromebook could be used as a traditional laptop with a keyboard, or as a touchscreen tablet. This “hybrid” feature should make it an attractive choice for consumers who want the power of a laptop with the versatility and ease of use of a tablet.
Samsung’s new Chromebook will also sport an all-metal body. However, don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s large and overly bulky. On the contrary, Samsung has taken great strides to make it anything but large and bulky. The new Chromebook will measure just 12.9mm thick (or thin), in which some of the market’s most advanced components will be housed.
In terms of specs, we still don’t know everything about Samsung’s new Chromebook, but we do now it will feature a 6-core 2GHz ARM processor. That’s one of the fastest processors of its class on the market, providing blazing-fast processing speeds for users. The new Chromebook will also feature 4GB of random access memory (RAM), along with 32GB of storage. Granted, 32GB isn’t a huge amount of storage space, but it’s probably safe to assume there will be some external storage option available for the device.
Regarding batter life, the new Chromebook is rumored to last up to 10 hours on a single charge
So, how much will the new Chromebook cost? Adorama has it listed for $499, although you should heed this info with a grain of salt since Samsung has yet to make an official announcement.
